Big job, little resources …

February 7, 2013 Hebrews 12:18-19, 21-24;  Mark 6:7-13

There’s a lot of action between Jesus and the Twelve in today’s Gospel!

There’s a call – we read – Jesus “summoned” the Twelve.

There’s a commission – Jesus “sends” them.

There’s support – Jesus pairs them up with each other.

There’s an empowerment – Jesus gives them authority.

Then – there’s a response … they “go off” (they journey) to preach repentance … to drive out demons … and to anoint and cure the sick.

imagesThe Twelve were to do all this with very little material resources … they were to travel light … no extra clothes … no food … no money.  All they had with them was the power of Jesus and their faith. Overall … in order to successfully fulfill their mission and ministry … this demanded great dependence on… and trust in God.

In truth … they had little materially … but gave much spiritually. That’s really following the example of Jesus!

We each have these dynamics of call, commission, support, empowerment, journeying operating in our faith life too.

May we each have the grace … the faith … the trust in God as we journey in our every day encounters … to share the message of the Gospel with others.
